Signs of Hearing Loss

In most cases hearing loss develops gradually. Because it is a slow process we adapt to the change and may not notice that we no longer hear as well. Some of the first signs people have when their hearing is deteriorating are:

  • Difficulty hearing in background noise
  • A sensation that people are mumbling
  • Needing the TV or radio up louder than family or friends do
  • Difficulty hearing on the phone
  • Having to ask people for repeats
  • Friends or family report that you aren’t hearing them properly
  • Difficulty hearing at meetings or at church
  • Avoiding social situations because it is too hard to hear

If any of these sound familiar to you then it is strongly recommended that you see an audiologist to check your hearing levels and investigate the cause of any hearing loss. Your audiologist will also be able to monitor the progress of any hearing loss and make recommendations for the treatment and rehabilitation of your hearing problems.

The sooner you act on a hearing loss the better your outcomes are likely to be, so do not hesitate to contact an audiologist for professional advice if you have any concerns.
