Audiology Australia Announces New Board Changes for Era of Innovation and Growth

Dec 1, 2023

Media Release

Audiology Australia is continuing its theme of change with the announcement of three new Board Directors as it enters a new era of innovation, growth, and reconciliation.

Welcomed at this week’s Online Annual General Meeting in Melbourne, Samantha Harkus, Catherine Hart, and Lia Traves were elected from a record breaking 12 candidates.

Newly reappointed AudA President, Dr Barbra Timmer said the Board was excited to begin working with the three new members to drive AudA’s new vision of growth, impact and recognition for the profession and Australian hearing health.

“We are delighted to welcome Sam, Catherine and Lia to the Audiology Australia Board at a time of transformation and growth for the organisation, its members and the profession. Their expertise, skills, and unique perspectives will help shape and drive this next era.”

The three new appointments mean the organisation is also farewelling three Board Directors. Marjolijn Kindt, Myra Ng and Xiaoyin Shang stepped down from the Board this week leaving a legacy of significant contributions to Audiology Australia and their profession.

“On behalf of the Board, I thank Marjolijn and Myra for their indelible contributions to the Board and AudA as Treasurer and chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committees. I also thank Xiaoyin for her leadership and considerable contributions to shaping the profession as Chair of the Professional Practice Guide Working Group.” Said Dr Timmer.

New Audiology Australia CEO, Leanne Emerson who joined AudA in November, said she looked forward to working with the new and existing Board Directors and Dr Timmer to deliver the organisation’s new vision for the profession and hearing health in Australia.

“I am excited to work with Dr Timmer and Board as well as the AudA staff as we begin this exciting new chapter at AudA with a new strategic direction and commitment to our journey to reconciliation,” she said.

As well as Dr Timmer’s reappointment as President, Yetta Abrahams will remain as Vice President with Emma Ramsay stepping into the role of Treasurer.
