Audiology Australia can share our participation at an allied health roundtable event held in Melbourne on Friday 4 September with the Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Jenny McAllister.
The roundtable, organised by Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA), presented the opportunity for peak allied health professions to discuss issues relating to the passing of the recent NDIS Bill directly with the Minister.
Audiology Australia was represented by CEO Leanne Emerson, who joined leaders from almost 20 other peak allied health organisations in attendance.
The discussion covered some of the critical issues ahead as NDIS reforms progress, including continuity of access to allied health supports, functional capacity assessments, support determinations, pricing and workforce sustainability.
One aspect of the discussion that Audiology Australia especially highlighted to the Minister were the challenges that exist for allied health professionals who are working across numerous funding streams. While pricing is considered vertically within the NDIS system, many Audiology Australia members and other allied health professionals work horizontally across the NDIS, aged care, Medicare, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and other funding systems, each with different pricing structures and requirements.
