MBS Update: New MBS items to expand allied health access in residential aged care and extension to COVID-19 telehealth services
Last year, the Government made available temporary MBS items to improve the access to allied health care for residents in residential aged care during COVID-19. Under these items, audiologists providing services to aged care residents are able to:
* claim a call-out fee to cover their costs to travel to an aged care facility to provide a face-to-face service; and
* undertake an initial attendance consultation with a resident who has been referred under an eligible treatment, management or care plan.
Further information is available in the Department of Health’s factsheet here.
The Government will also extend the current COVID-19 telehealth items from 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2021. Audiology Australia’s factsheet on the COVID-19 MBS telehealth services can be viewed here.
