The ‘Audiologist’ occupation classification now has a new dedicated occupation code: 263931.

What is the Census?
The Australian Census is being completed on Tuesday 11 August (‘Census night’). The Census is conducted every five years and provides a snapshot of Australia’s population, workforce, and communities. Particularly for self-regulated health professions, which audiology will be until registration moves to Ahpra, the Census is an important source of national workforce data.
Information collected through the Census helps governments and organisations understand:
- how many health professionals are working in Australia
- where health professionals are practising
- the skills and qualifications available across the workforce.
If you missed Census night, the ABC is reporting that the Australian Bureau of Statistics will contact you to complete and submit the form.
What do I need to do?
Audiologists should report their profession, qualifications, and employment information.
Key questions:
- Qualifications (Question 34)—accurately record your highest completed qualification.
- Employment Information (Question 38)—ensure your responses accurately reflect your employment status, hours worked, industry of employment, and main work location.
- Occupation (Question 42)—select ‘263931 Audiologist’.
