Important Update: Co-claiming Restrictions for MBS Items for Vestibular Assessment

Jan 23, 2024

The Australian Government is moving ahead with changes after showing support for Audiology Australia’s proposed amendments to remove co-claiming restrictions on MBS items 11340, 11341 and 11343 (vestibular assessment) with MBS item 11300 (brain stem evoked response audiometry).

The Department of Health and Aged Care and the Office of Parliamentary Counsel are currently working on draft  amended regulations incorporating the recommendations. Implementation is expected to be completed through the 2023-24 Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook process with changes to come into effect from 1 July 2024.

The Department will communicate these changes through the MBS Online website following completion of the legislative process. This will include releasing an xml file outlining the new and amended item details (including the item numbers, item descriptors and associated fees) prior to the implementation of the changes.
