“Australia still has the worst ear disease rates in the world. Chronic suppurative otitis media affects from 40% to 85% of children in Indigenous communities. It is disheartening discussing my mob on an international scale because of the dichotomy that exists with ear disease here.”

“I ask the Prime Minister, what if it was your child and they weren’t hearing that well?  What would you do to make sure they heard well and got the correct education they required?”

The Libby Harricks Memorial Oration in 2024 – Parliament House, Canberra 

We are delighted to announce that Professor Kelvin Kong AM will deliver the 25th Libby Harricks Memorial Oration at Parliament House Canberra on the evening of Monday 25 March 2024.

Deafness Forum Australia extends a warm invitation to Audiology Australia members and all interested people to  Professor Kelvin Kong AM’s address on Indigenous Hearing health with special introduction from The Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health & Aged Care.

About Professor Kong AM

A proud Worimi man, Kelvin is Australia’s first indigenous ENT surgeon and an inspiring advocate for hearing health.

Honoured as the 2023 NAIDOC Person of the Year,  he was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2024 for his work with Indigenous children at risk of hearing loss.

This event is hosted by Deafness Forum Australia, the national peak body for the 3.5 million Australians living with hearing loss.
