Audiologists with clients in safety-critical rail roles should consider attending the 2025 Audiology Australia Online Conference, which spotlights recent updates to the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers in a 25-minute session with AudA President Dr Barbra Timmer.
The new standard was approved by the National Transport Commission in November 2024, with updates to the hearing guidelines (Section 4.4, page 133), bearing important implications for audiologists.
Health assessments to determine fitness for duty of rail safety workers must be conducted according to the new edition of the standard.
Dr Barbra Timmer will outline the key revisions, explain their implications for audiologists, and highlight how these updates affect clinical testing and reporting requirements.
The session “National Railway Standards: What the new hearing guidelines mean for audiologists” will run from 4.05-4.30pm AEDT on 23 October, or can be viewed as a recording until 18 January 2026.
