Submission to Primary Health Reform Steering Group

Audiology Australia has provided a submission to the Primary Health Reform Steering Group on its draft recommendations on the Government’s Primary Health Care 10 Year Plan. Key points highlighted in AudA’s submission include the following:

(1) The need for the health care system to integrate with other sectors of society, including the aged care, disability, education and justice systems.

(2) The need for a stronger holistic approach to health care that is supported by widespread implementation of multidisciplinary care planning and better integration of allied health professionals in primary health teams.

(3) The need for stronger recognition of all allied health professions – whether the profession is regulated by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPA) or is a self-regulated profession – with explicit recognition of the standards of the National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP), being comparable with those of the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme.

(4) The need to maximise the use of contemporary digital health advancements to complement allied health services and improve client outcomes, including the expansion and enhancement of telehealth services and the My Health Record system.

(5) The importance of ensuring that Indigenous-identified data is collected in a culturally appropriate way and that appropriate Indigenous data governance arrangements are considered.
