Audiology Australia supports the MRAC’s draft recommendation not to expand eligibility for limited audiology items to audiometrists under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS). This draft recommendation aligns with our previous and most recent feedback, raising concerns regarding:
- risks to client safety and quality of care;
- differences in qualifications and scope of practice between the professions;
- heightened risks for children and clients with complex needs; and
- clinical integrity and continuity.
We support maintaining current arrangements, however, we have also suggested several recommendations, such as expanding scope for audiologists in underserved areas, improving referral pathways and supporting innovative service delivery models.
